FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the Glenwood/Laurin PTO

What does PTO stand for?

Parent Teacher Organization

Am I expected to pay yearly dues?

No! Because we are a PTO and not a PTA, we are not required to pay dues.

Can anyone vote?

Any parent or teacher of the students currently enrolled in Glenwood Heights or Laurin Middle School are able to vote.

How much time does the PTO require?

As much or as little time that you can fit into your routine. It can be anything from selling tickets, making popcorn, copying flyers, all the way to running a whole event.

How many meetings am I required to attend?

You are not required to attend any. It keeps good communication and new and fresh ideas flowing if you attend our monthly meetings.

Can I ask question or bring up ideas at a meeting? When is a good time to do that?

You can ask questions at any time. We have all been new; we understand and very much appreciate questions! If you have new ideas or would just like to talk, there is an open forum at the end of the meeting. We encourage you to partake. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking in front of a group, email us at any time!

Will the meetings always be in the same place at the same time?

General meetings are the second Thursday of every other month except during the summer. They will be held in the Glenwood Library. The times are 3:45pm or 7pm to try to accommodate as many people as we can.

Why are we a joint PTO with Laurin and Glenwood?

Because the campuses are so close and the majority of the kids that attend Laurin have also attended Glenwood, it creates a large community of caring. We keep all fundraisers separate and try to accommodate each school fairly.

Are PTO events open to the whole family?

YES!! Absolutely bring the whole family!

What if I want to volunteer?

Please go to your school’s office and get a volunteer form (background check), they will need a copy of your driver’s license.  We also have a PTO volunteer form that you can fill out to specify if you would like to help with a particular thing.
