2011/12 Events & Fundraisers

To get involved with these events, contact our Volunteer Coordinator Evelyn Weed at glenwoodlaurinpto@gmail.com.  Thanks in advance for your support!

Payback Book Fundraiser (September): This is Glenwood Heights most profitable fundraiser of the year.  It supports most of the educational and social programs as well as technical equipment for the classrooms.  Time requirement is usually 1-2 hours stuffing envelopes and distributing books and prizes to the classrooms.

Fall Festival (October): A wonderful fall family event that includes game booths, prizes, food, contests and a cake walk.  The kids can wear costumes if they wish. This year we are thinking of adding a haunted house.  It takes lots of volunteers to make this event happen.  Volunteers are needed to man the game booths for an hour or two and setup/clean up; and chairpersons are needed for food, games, tickets, cake walk, prizes/raffle and the haunted house.

Cocoa & Caring: A special night that symbolizes the “Caring and Sharing” spirit of Glenwood where an unwrapped toy is brought to the event which is donated to children in need in our community.  The evening is enjoyed by all with holiday music, crafts and stories read by teachers – and of course lots of cocoa and cookies!

Family Nights: These events are held at various times throughout the year to be determined by the chairperson.  The chairperson can choose to organize a movie night, game night, reading night, or go-green night.  Volunteers are needed to help organize, set up/clean up and sell concessions.  These events are not complicated to organize – give it a try!

Friday Popcorn: Glenwood Cubbies love their popcorn on Fridays!  Two poppers and one $ counter needed from 8-11 am on Fridays.

Staff Appreciation Week (May): We love our wonderful teachers and ancillary staff at Glenwood and Laurin, and show them how much during staff appreciation week.  We need volunteers to provide food and goodies and to help plan, set up and clean up events for this week.

Spring Spaghetti Dinner/Bingo (5/18):Come eat a delicious meal and play bingo with the family. There will also be a silent auction to raise money for your student’s classroom.

WatchDOGS (Dads of Great Students): We are calling all dads, stepfathers, grandpas, uncles and male role models to come join a team of men to coordinate the launch of this program in the fall.  The goal is to have dads (or other male role models) come to the school one day during the year and be a “WatchDOG”.  WatchDOGS help in classrooms, at recess, in the lunchroom, and are an additional security presence for the kids at school.
